Accept Tips (NPO/NGO Donations)
Accept Tips (NPO/NGO Donations)

This article explains how to enable the tipping feature on your podcast website to accept donations for your non-profit organization.

Updated over a month ago

Tipping Feature

All podcasters have the option to enable the tipping feature on their podcast website. This is done from the Monetization tab in your PodOps account. As a non-profit organization, you can also allow podcasters to direct the tips they earn to your organization.

Log in to PodOpsHost.com and click Monetization in the left menu. Here you will find all the tools you need to enable tipping for your organization.

IMPORTANT: Donation functionality only works with Stripe. PayPal will not allow you to accept donations from podcasters, and all transactions will be treated as a tip (with the 5% transaction fee).

With Stripe, the PodOps transaction fee for organizations is automatically reduced to 1% in addition to Stripe’s processing fees.

Getting Started

Connect With Stripe: Select your country from the dropdown and then click Connect With Stripe to create a Stripe account. Stripe will open in a new window, be sure your pop-up blocker is disabled. Follow the prompts to complete the Stripe setup process. This will allow you to deposit tips (donations) you receive from podcasters who host with PodOps, as well as tips given to you from your listeners, directly into your organization’s bank account.

IMPORTANT: Save your Stripe username and password. We provide reporting on the Tips you receive from podcasters. However, for accounting purposes, you will want to access Stripe directly to complete your bank reconciliation.

Please Note: PodOps does not store or have access to your Stripe account or banking information.

Tipping Tab

After successfully connecting Stripe, navigate to the Tipping Tab. Customize the text that appears on your podcast website. By default, the text above the tip amounts reads, Support My Podcast. Change this to anything you like, utilizing up to 250 characters.

Please Note: If you are solely using PodOps to collect Tips, and you are not hosting a podcast with us, you don’t need to worry about this step.

You can also add four tipping amounts, in any amount you would like.

Finally, toggle ON the enable gratuity feature next to one or more of your podcasts. Once this is complete, the tipping feature will be active on your podcast website(s).

IMPORTANT: If you toggle on enable gratuity, but have NOT connected a Stripe account, the tipping feature will not appear on your podcast website.

Please Note: If you are solely using PodOps to collect Tips, and you are not hosting a podcast with us, you don’t need to worry about this step.

Additional Tipping Features

After your Stripe account is verified you can click the Account Dashboard button to launch Stripe for reporting purposes.

Tipping Payment History: At the bottom of the Tipping Tab, you will see a report for Tips that have come into your organization. If you are hosting a podcast with us, this will show both Tips made directly on your podcast website, and tips redirected to you from other podcasters.

Your Supporters: As podcasters begin to support your organization, you will see them appear on the Tipping Tab under Your Supporters. If at any time, you would like to no longer accept Tips from a podcaster, toggle them off. They will remain on the list, as long as they don’t toggle off your organization from their page. You can toggle them back on at any time.

Public View

When podcasters choose to support your organization, we make it visible on their podcast website directly below the tipping buttons. The name of your organization will automatically merge in from your account to ensure it is accurate.
